Though the three and two-starred clubs remain unchanged, the 2018 edition of the Michelin guide for Hong Kong and Macao features eight new restaurants with a single star, many of which are helmed by foreign chefs.

Ducasse, for instance, was awarded a star for the Hong Kong outpost of his Paris seafood restaurant Rech, while Bellin, another Michelin-starred chef in France, earned a star for his Hong Kong restaurant The Ocean, which also specialises in seafood.

Likewise, inspectors awarded Australian chef Shane Osborn with his first star for his contemporary eatery Arcane.

Overall, the selection of new single-starred restaurants serve Cantonese, Japanese and fusion cuisines.

The 2018 edition of Hong Kong and Macao marks the guide’s 10th anniversary and Michelin notes that the number of starred restaurants in the region has tripled over the last decade.
