It makes sense that The City That Never Sleeps has an obsession with coffee in all its glorious forms, from cold brews to lavender lattes.
And just when you think that the limit on ways to serve coffee has been hit, a New York cafe trots out something new.
This time around, its a cafe in the hip East Village neighbourhood serving a “Deconstructed Latte”. On a wooden cutting board, guests receive three glasses containing an espresso shot, warm milk and … a regular ol’ latte – plus a small wafer cookie to nibble on.
The idea is to try each component of the latte separately before seeing how they meld together. The concept has proved popular even though it’s more expensive than a normal latte, prompting dozens of food bloggers and others to make the trip to Coffee Project New York.

Having a third wheel on a cosy date night is not ideal for most people, though a bar in New York could make some reconsider. At Threesome Tollbooth in the Brooklyn neighbourhood, there’s enough room for only two guests and the bartender in the wood-panelled watering hole that’s only a bit larger than a telephone booth.
To get a seat at this bar hidden behind an unmarked steel door, potential patrons have to pay up front online for one of a limited set of reservations that cost between US$100 and US$120 (RM388-RM775) per person.
However, with that ticket, guests will be treated to an especially private tasting of some of the best-made cocktails in the city.
Founder and barkeeper N D Austin came up with the idea for Threesome Tollbooth a few years ago and is just now making it a reality in the basement of a shuttered restaurant. – dpa
